Battlefield fans tell EA: ‘No one wants a reimagining’

EA’s plans for Battlefield’s future remain vague, but fans are already dreading them anyway.

It’s been obvious for a while that EA needs to do some serious rethinking with its Battlefield franchise. 2021’s Battlefield 2042 proved very unpopular with most fans at launch and its subsequent updates appear to have done little to bolster the player count.

Earlier this year, EA went and cancelled plans for a mobile game spin-off (and shut down the developer with it) and had to assure fans and investors that the series remains an important part of the company’s plans.

At the time, CEO Andrew Wilson talked about ‘[bringing] Battlefield back in an entirely new way in the future,’ and now he has hinted at plans of a ‘reimagination’ for the series.

That is precisely as vague as it sounds, although it does fall in line with Wilson’s previous statement and strongly points to Battlefield undergoing some kind of major change in focus.
