Delivery driver Gurwinder Singh poured his life savings into the four bedroom home in Willenhall, West Midlands, and now claims he’ll fight to keep it erected over a three-year planning dispute
A dad whose illegally-built home has to be torn down after being told it “looks like a Travelodge” has vowed he’ll fight to keep it.
Gurwinder Singh has been ordered to bulldoze the four-bedroom home after going against the conditions of his planning permission. It came after a three-year dispute with neighbours who described Mr Singh’s house as ‘Monster Mansion’.
Mr Singh was granted permission in 2020 for a modest extension to the 1960s house in Willenhall, Black Country, but he went one step further and demolished the entire building. It’s thought the brand new house would have cost in the region of £200,000 to build â and would have been the biggest in the area.
But residents dubbed the modest home as a “Travelodge in the middle of a housing estate” after it began to go up. The outrage prompted the council to slap him with an enforcement notice to demolish the half-built construction.
