Referees will be “far stricter” on dealing with misbehaviour by players and coaches in the new season, with the FA expecting an initial rise in the number of yellow and red cards shown as a result.
Match officials have been told to issue at least one yellow card when two or more players confront them, as part of a new campaign to improve behaviour at all levels of the English game.
There will be a new code of conduct for coaches and substitutes in the technical area under the “Participant Charter”, which is backed by all the English football bodies. The charter also warns of football bans and criminal proceedings for fans who take part in “tragedy chanting”.
