West Ham ‘make decision’ on new Harry Maguire bid after daring Man Utd transfer request

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag recently stripped Harry Maguire of the captaincy and it’s unclear whether the Englishman will continue his career at Old Trafford

It’s doubtful West Ham will make another bid for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire due to his price tag and wage demands.

Man Utd have rejected a £20m bid from the Hammers for Maguire, 30, who is deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are holding out for £50m for the England international after giving Leicester £80m for his services four years ago.

That price tag may prove too expensive for West Ham. His £200,000-a-week wages are also thought to be an issue, as is his reticence to join the Hammers. It’s believed Maguire wants to play for a ‘bigger club’, despite falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Maguire started just eight Premier League games last season and was recently stripped of the captaincy by Erik ten Hag. He will struggle to get ahead of Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw for a place in the starting XI.
