Brits favourite holiday spots revealed

Research shows that 15% of us are so overwhelmed by the amount of choice, we would rather just go somewhere we already know

A third of holidaymakers will this year return to a destination they have previously visited, according to research. A poll of 2,000 people found 28% go back to the same place because they are unsure about the cost of somewhere new, while 20% worry about being out of their comfort zone.

And 15% are so overwhelmed by the amount of choice, they would rather just go somewhere they already know. However, 40% polled believe it is important to switch up holiday locations. More than half of respondents said the thing which makes a holiday great is making new memories. For 40%, however, say just having a break from work is what really makes a holiday stand out.

Around a third feel happier and more fulfilled when being adventurous with holidays, with the average adult planning two getaways in total for 2023. Half say who they’re with makes all the difference, while the food on offer at the destination is another major factor in making a trip great.

The research also looked into holiday destination bucket lists, with Rome, Italy, topping the list alongside Athens in Greece. Third was Tokyo, with New York and Reykjavik rounding out the top five, according to the OnePoll.com figures.
