Man Utd news: Rasmus Hojlund’s rise as value skyrockets in £72m deal

Manchester United have moved a step closer to signing Denmark sensation Ramus Hojlund after reportedly agreeing a £72million deal with Atalanta. Erik ten Hag viewed a striker signing as a major priority going into the transfer window and having missed out on deals for Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen, 20-year-old Hojlund will lead the line next season. The youngster has enjoyed a meteoric rise since moving to Italy just under a year ago, going on to be earmarked for a spot at a host of top clubs across Europe. Paris Saint-Germain had attempted to hijack United’s latest signing, having offered him a better contract to move to France, but they were not prepared to match the fee to Atalanta. The Dane’s value has skyrocketed over the past 18 months, as per Transfermarkt his value a year-and-a-half ago was just £170,000 – now it is £40m, with United prepared to spend as much as £72m on the striker. Just last summer he was available after spending just six months in Austria with Sturm Graz after leaving Copenhagen, with Atalanta the side to pounce as they spent £14.5m to bring him to Italy. A year later and he is being sold for nearly five times as much after catching the eye with nine Serie A goals in 32 appearances.
