Man Utd setback could block Sofyan Amrabat transfer and prevent £45m influx

Manchester United will be without teenage sensation Kobbie Mainoo for the early part of the new season after the 18-year-old injured his ankle during the Red Devils’ friendly defeat to Real Madrid in the USA on Thursday. And United’s setback could block their pursuit of Fiorentina ace Sofyan Amrabat and prevent them from netting £45million from the sale of Scott McTominay. United secured their return to the Champions League in May after finishing third in the Premier League table. And they have snapped up playmaker Mason Mount from Chelsea and goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan ahead of the new season, with a £72million deal for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund also on the cards. Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag is desperate to build a team that can compete for silverware on all fronts this season and is currently chasing Amrabat, who excelled for Morocco at last year’s World Cup in Qatar. But, according to The Telegraph , a move for the 26-year-old would be more likely if McTominay is sold. Ten Hag is open to offloading the Scotland international for £45m, with West Ham interested in prising the ace away from Old Trafford. The north west giants already plan to sell Fred and Donny van de Beek before the transfer window slams shut at the start of September, but the prospect of multiple sales could leave United short of options in the centre of the pitch. And Ten Hag will now have to decide whether he can go without McTominay. And, with United needing to bring money in for Financial Fair Play reasons, keeping McTominay would all but end the Red Devils’ pursuit of Amrabat. Mainoo has been tipped to achieve big things at Old Trafford and impressed during his side’s pre-season victory over Arsenal earlier this month. But his untimely injury appears to be causing havoc behind the scenes as United’s transfer plans are thrown into jeopardy. He has flown home from Tour to the UK where further assessment of his injury will take place before a medical decision on the next steps.’
