Tragic death that led to Eagles’ rock star Randy Meisner to step out of public eye

Randy Meisner, one of the founding members of the rock band the Eagles, passed away Wednesday night, but after a tragic death in 2016 he disappeared from the public eye

Eagles co-founder Randy Meisner died Wednesday night at the age of 77, and seven years after the tragic death of his second wife.

Lana Rae Meisner accidentally shot herself and died after the two had an argument. On 6 March 2016, California police received a 911 call that there was a possible intoxicated male, presumed to be Randy Meisner.

The police arrived and then left the scene, determining it was a domestic incident that didn’t need any further action. Over an hour later, his wife was dead. Ball-bearing spurs, that belonged to Randy, were in a rifle case in the couple’s bedroom closet. Lana went to the closet for an unspecified reason and picked the case up, causing the spurs to move and fire the trigger of the shotgun. The gun went off and a bullet was fired into either her head or face, killing her instantly.

Police called the incident a “freak accident” and noted that the gun would only need “a feather’s touch” in order to go off and the spurs weighed about a pound. Surveillance video showed Randy in a different part of the house at the time, exonerating him from having a role in the tragic accident.
