Alleged serial killers wife ‘traumatised’ as family return home after 12 day police search

After a 12-day search by police, the family of suspected Gilgo Beach murderer, Rex Heuermann returned to their New York home

The family of the suspected Gilgo Beach murderer, Rex Heuermann, has returned to their New York home after an intense 12-day search by law enforcement – and admitted she is traumatised.

Asa Ellerup, Heuermann’s now-estranged wife who filed for divorce shortly after his July 13 arrest, and their two children were seen back in their Massapequa Park home on Long Island Thursday morning.

During the 12-day search, the family had been staying at a hotel as police thoroughly examined their property. Asa told reporters outside their home: “‘If you want to stand up here and wait for something. I have a lot of work to do. The sheer depression of what I saw was enough trauma…”

It is unclear exactly what Asa was referring to. Heuermann, 59, had lived in the property with his wife, stepson, and daughter for more than a decade after buying the home from his mother in 1994.
