Evil killer Louis de Zoysa joins more than 60 other callous criminals serving whole-life sentences behind bars for their heinous crimes. De Zoysa was handed the whole life order after shooting a veteran policeman
Louis de Zoysa will spend the rest of his life behind bars after he shot dead a veteran policeman while in a police station cell.
The 26-year-old fired an antique Colt revolver, which he’d been hiding under his coat, at Met Police Sergeant Matt Ratana. In handcuffs, he fired a second bullet which hit his own neck, which caused him to have a stroke and suffer a brain injury, and he is now in a wheelchair.
Sentencing De Zoysa, from Banstead, Surrey, Mr Justice Jeremy Johnson said: “You acted in cold blood. You intended to kill Sergeant Ratana. You aimed the gun at his chest at near point-blank range.” Jurors were told De Zoysa was a gun fanatic and a shortened infantry rifle, numerous types of ammunition, a pipe gun, and a dummy launcher were found at his rented property after the killing.
The cop killer joins a string of the country’s most dangerous offenders who are expected to die behind bars, including disgraced police officer Wayne Couzens and necrophiliac David Fuller.
