Tua Tagovailoa set to wear new helmet after multiple concussions and retirement warning

The head of Tua Tagovailoa now has more protection as the Miami Dolphins quarterback has switched helmet types after suffering at least two concussions last season

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was seen showing off his new tattoos in training this week, but fans also spotted his new helmet.

Tagovailoa has moved on from his SpeedFlex helmet and switched to a Vicis brand instead. The Vicis helmet is visibly larger and may not look as flattering as the headwear from last season, but it’s meant to offer considerably more protection to the head.

The Dolphins quarterback suffered two concussions last season and missed their playoff run as a result. It was possible that Tagovailoa actually sustained three concussions within the 18-week season, but only two were officially filed.

Athletes are becoming more aware of the dangers of concussions and what they can lead to later on in life, and Tagovailoa has been working hard this offseason to alter his playstyle and ensure he is more protected next season. Tagovailoa was told to retire last season by some medical professionals, but he’s making the necessary adjustments to stay safe and remain playing.
