New Jersey wants to host Premier League or Champions League games

The man responsible for bringing World Cup matches to New Jersey has said that he would be keen to host Premier League or Champions League games in the state.

Phil Murphy, the governor of New Jersey, successfully lobbied for the MetLife Stadium to be one of 16 grounds to host World Cup games during the 2026 tournament, which is being held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Murphy is trying to grow interest in football in New Jersey and last weekend he was present to watch Manchester United play Arsenal in front of more than 82,000 fans at the MetLife.

During a briefing with the English media before kick-off, Murphy admitted that the possibility of hosting a competitive match involving such high-profile teams interested
