The Met Office maps highlight where the heaviest rainfall is expected - and forecasters believe this will be across the south coast, parts of Aberdeenshire and the northern tips of Scotland. Maps show from 2pm a weather front of torrential rain will start sweeping across the UK. It will be half way across the country by 6pm - and from 11.45pm the whole of the British isles will see downpours, with the weather still unseasonable for late July. Stephen Dixon from the Met Office told the Mirror: "In terms of rainfall, some places could see between 30 and 50mm of rainfall over a 24-hour period, looking most likely over higher ground in the west. So it's a watch point, but not not something that we're issuing anything (weather warnings) on at the moment. "The main watch point through the week is that rain moving in on Wednesday, which could be high totals for some areas but we are just trying to determine when and where exactly that that might be. "Those showers will be more frequent and heavier in in northern and eastern areas. I could see around 10 millimetres of rain in an hour. "From Wednesday we've got a low pressure set out to the northwest of the UK. What this is doing is helping spread some weather fronts over the UK, bring some more persistent rain by Wednesday afternoon. "So this will be a front of rain that will move from the west of the UK to the east, and they'll be rain for the vast majority of UK through the day on Wednesday."
