‘People think I’m homeless as I refuse to wear shoes and go everywhere barefoot’

Catrina Shenston claims walking barefoot has revolutionised her health – but admits that others have been less accepting of her lifestyle change and some mistake her for being homeless

There’s a reason most people you see out and about wear shoes – they help absorb impact as we walk, keep us warm and protect us from things we may step on. But some people choose to not wear anything on their feet, arguing that walking barefoot is something humans have done for millions of years.

Catrina Shenston has been barefoot for the last seven years – and claims it’s revolutionised her health. After a trip to India, the mum from Chelmsford, Essex was left wanting to ditch her shoes for good, and she hasn’t looked back since.

After removing her shoes, she claims it’s stopped her ME (also known as chronic fatigue syndrome) and she doesn’t get colds.

However, she admits those around her haven’t been as accepting of her lifestyle changed. Catrina feels “lonely” and people assume she is homeless, and even offer her shoes. She now wants to try to encourage others in the UK to try out the barefoot lifestyle.
