One retail shop owner on Baker Street, who didn't want to be named, said: "I do think some people in Weybridge may feel like it's bringing the standards down a little bit. "A lot of people have an idea that TK Maxx is tacky - especially in this area." Shoppers queued for more than two hours for the store's opening last week in Paddock Retail Park in Brooklands. Claudine Angear, 43, who owns a jewellery shop on Weybridge's High Street, said she was concerned it spelled the death of the high street. She added: "People don't shop on their town's high streets anymore because they can just go to these big business parks where they can find Tesco or M&S for food, John Lewis for their interiors, Currys for their electronics. "And if there's also a TKMaxx for clothes, then why not go to TKMaxx as well? "A lot of retail stores have closed around here. Empty shops in this town are a big problem." Another local, who gave her name only as Jane, said she wasn't a fan of the discount store. She said: "I personally don't like TKMaxx. But the new branch is in a business park, sort of tucked away from the town centre - and it's convenient. "If it were in the High Street, it would not have been a good fit.
