Harry Maguire explains why he didn’t take a penalty in bizarre Man Utd vs Arsenal shootout

The former Manchester United captain was not one of the five players who took a penalty during the shootout following their pre-season victory against Arsenal at MetLife Stadium

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire did not take a penalty during the shootout against Arsenal to avoid a repeat of the Euro 2020 final.

Maguire, 30, came on as a substitute at half-time of the pre-season friendly when United manager Erik ten Hag switched all ten outfield players. Alongside Victor Lindelof, the England international played the entirety of the goalless second half.

That meant first-half goals from Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho gave United the 2-0 win. But regardless of the result, the match went to a penalty shootout at the MetLife Stadium.

Again, United came out on top as Casemiro, Diogo Dalot, Lindelof, Marcus Rashford and Christian Eriksen all converted from the spot. While Martin Odegaard, Leandro Trossard and Jorginho did not err from 12 yards, Fabio Vieira sent their third strike high over the crossbar, which proved decisive.
