I did nothing to my £215k house and made £18k – here’s how I scooped the cash

HOUSE ABOUT THAT Published : 14:48, 23 Jul 2023 A WOMAN has made a tidy £18,000 profit on her home without making any improvements to the property. Mum-of-five Nikki, who features in the latest episode of the BBC hit daytime show Homes under the Hammer, paid £215,000 for the ‘dated’ three-bedroom house in Crewe . 2 Nikki managed to make an £18k profit on this house in Crewe Credit: BBC Nikki then sold the semi-detached home, which is just a short distance from the town centre, for £235,000 a few months later. The smart mum forked out £2,000 to get the garden tidied up and the furniture moved out, giving her a welcome £18,000 profit. She told the programme: ‘It just goes to show, with very little spend, if you buy in the right location, good schools, local amenities, buy at the right price, there is still money to be made on houses, even if you do nothing to them.’ When the show’s presenter Jacqui Joseph visited the property in August last year she described the house as being ‘pretty dated’ but was taken with its size. She also described the property as the house that ‘keeps on giving’ after discovering not only did it have two kitchens but also a ‘secret garden’. Along with the conventional kitchen, there was another one which was adjoining the garage which was part of a ‘lean to’ set-up which also had a downstairs loo. Property expert Ryan Cheetham, from Butlers John Bee estate agents, said: ‘It’s quite an unusual set-up – quite quirky.’ Nikki also revealed that property development had been just a hobby which she juggled with a full-time job but had recently resigned and was now looking to make a career out of her previous side-hustle. She started out on her hobby at a young age and by the time she was just 18 she’d managed to build her own house. Nikki continued to buy and do up properties and by the time her eldest child was 12 he had already lived in a dozen homes. Her youngest child Archie also appeared in front of the camera and revealed he was keen to get going on ‘destroying walls’ using a sledgehammer. However, not everything went according to plan and when the film crew returned four months later Archie hadn’t got his wish. All that had been done was that her eldest sons Josh and Jacob had landscaped the garden and all the furniture had been removed. Nikki also explained she had started a new job and had to do some work on her own home, which had prevented her from starting work on the property. 2 Nikki appeared on the BBC property show with her youngest child Archie Credit: BBC
