 Steps are taking a break for the foreseeable future in order for each of them to focus on their ongoing solo projects. The British pop group, formed in 1997, initially split up in 2001 after a string of top 10 and number 1 singles in the UK, including Stomp and Tragedy. After brief solo stints during the 2000s, the group reformed briefly in 2011 before getting back together again in 2017 with an album of new material. Now, after six years and another run of successful albums and singles, singer Claire Richards has said the group are taking a break to focus on solo projects. 'Obviously, we've got Brighton Pride in August,' Claire promised anxious Steps fans. 'But apart from that, we are taking a break.' Speaking to The Mirror, she continued: 'Pride came up and it was something that we wanted to do for a long time, so that's why we're doing it.' As for when the Deeper Shade of Blue hitmakers might come back, Claire admitted she didn't know, but promised that all five members were working hard.
