Pep Guardiola told Liverpool have already ruined Man City’s record summer transfer plan

Manchester City have only made one signing so far this summer, bringing in Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea, and Pep Guardiola has been told Liverpool may have ruined his plans to sign defender Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig have warned Manchester City they may refuse to sell defender Josko Gvardiol this summer as they “don’t need the money” following Dominik Szoboszlai’s move to Liverpool.

Szoboszlai made a £60m switch to Anfield after Liverpool activated his release clause, becoming their second new signing after fellow midfielder Alexis Mac Allister joined from Brighton. And Gvardiol has also been heavily linked with a Leipzig exit this summer, with City hoping to sign the 21-year-old.

Leipzig’s sporting director Max Eberl has previously admitted Gvardiol does want to join City and named “€100 million plus bonuses” as their asking price. That would make the Croatian international the most expensive defender in history, topping the sums Manchester United and Liverpool paid for Harry Maguire and Virgil van Dijk.

Now, following claims the deal was almost done, Eberl has insisted it is “not even close” and that they “would prefer Josko to stay”. He told Sky Germany: “There is no agreement with Manchester City.
