MLS teams have shown a lot of ambition of late, most notably Inter Miami with their signing of Lionel Messi, but it appears that they have work to do to catch their neighbours
CONCACAF has released its its latest club rankings but the list is dominated by teams from Mexico, with only one MLS franchise making the top ten.
The US’ leading league may be able to now boast some of the most recognisable names in sport following the arrival of Lionel Messi at Inter Miami. However, it appears that American teams still have work to do to catch up with their neighbours from Liga MX based on the CONCACAF Club Ranking system.
In the latest standings, multiple-time CONCACAF Champions League winners Monterrey top the list, with fellow former continental champions Club America finishing in second position. However, the Philadelphia Union are the only MLS team to breach the top ten, coming in eighth place.
Below the Subaru Park outfit, Los Angeles FC did retain their place in 11th, while Seattle Sounders, Nashville SC, New England Revolution, Real Salt Lake City and FC Cincinnati also made the top 20. Despite the ambition shown by Inter Miami’s owners in recent times, the Herons only came in 42nd place in the rankings.
