The plane used to fly South Africa Air and Avianca Airlines before it was recovered from San Jose Airport. It was entirely taken apart and rebuilt- it is now equipped with air conditioning, a kitchenette, a dining area, satellite TV and a terrace with a sea view. The unusual home which can be reached through a spiral staircase, has a unique cockpit with a colourful mosaic floor. The aircraft-turned-home, which is part of the Costa Verde resort, was an idea of the business's founder Allan Templeton. According to Autoevolution.com he was determined to find "new ways to introduce convenience and luxury to this very prosaic bit of aluminium scrap." Alongside the home's owner Faith Mulvill, the pair planned to buy the discarded plane that was being used for fire drills. After breaking it apart they moved it to the Manuel Antonio National Park and started working on its transformation. The original plan was to have the plane on its wheels but it was proved harder than they thought so they decided to install it on a pedestal- which also gives visitors the sensation that they're flying. The duo has changed the entire interior of the aircraft apart from the seats in the cockpit and the cabin windows.
