The PIF governor has made a number of appearances at LIV Golf events over the past year, most recently at LIV Andalucia earlier this month. And with tensions clearly simmering in the world of golf on the back of the proposed merger, Al-Rumayyan will also watch on at one of the sport's most prestigious events. The Saudis involvement in professional golf has been dominant over the past 12 months following the emergence of LIV. And this is only set to continue following their groundbreaking deal with the PGA Tour. On the back of the deal with the American-based circuit, R&A CEO Martin Slumbers was quizzed on whether The Open would go into partnership with PIF. And whilst he reiterated that the championship would never give up sponsorship naming rights, he did concede that would consider funding from the Saudis following the change in sporting landscape in recent years. "If I'm very open, we are and do and continue to do, talk to various potential sponsors," Slumbers said. "I was interpreting the question about sponsors as a presenting sponsor. We're not changing from The Open. That's what I meant. We have a number of large corporate partners that help us make this thing happen. I think the world has changed in the last year.
