Yasir Al-Rumayyan receives Hoylake invite as Open bosses ‘consider’ Saudi funding

Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan has reportedly received an invite to attend this week’s Open Championship at Royal Liverpool

The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan has been invited to this week’s Open Championship at Hoylake.

According to The Telegraph, Al-Rumayyan is set to attend the fourth and final major of the year having found himself at the centre of professional golf in recent weeks. Al-Rumayyan has played a key role in arranging the agreement between PIF and the PGA Tour.

The shock deal, which was announced on last month, will see the PGA Tour work alongside former rivals LIV Golf, as well as the DP World Tour. The PIF governor has made a number of appearances at LIV Golf events over the past year, most recently at LIV Andalucia earlier this month.

And with tensions clearly simmering in the world of golf on the back of the proposed merger, Al-Rumayyan will also watch on at one of the sport’s most prestigious events. The Saudis involvement in professional golf has been dominant over the past 12 months following the emergence of LIV.
