One place where they can do that is Chirk Castle in Wrexham, where the Trust has promised a "medieval twist" with their straw bale structure. Chirk has plenty for families to experience anyway, with far-reaching views over the Cheshire and Shropshire plains, 480 acres of working farmland and 4.5 acres of award-winning gardens. Near to Home Farm, an 18th century model farm which now houses a ticket office, shop, bookshop and kiosk, Chirk's new summer experience awaits. They are inviting children to jump, climb, run and skip through the the centrepiece of Chirk Castle's Summer of Play, the huge straw bale castle. Within the straw fortress lies four unique play zones where kids can discover different ways to play, be active, engage their senses and have fun. They can also get close to nature as they build dens and test their balance along an obstacle course. Costumes and roleplay will also allow kids to imagine that they really are back in medieval Chirk. A sensory zone will let kids' "creativity flow" before they try their hand at building their very own fortress in the construction zone. No visit would be complete without an exploration of the Medieval castle itself, with stunning gardens, preserved dungeons and state rooms fit for a king. The straw castle will be up from July 22 until September 3, while there will also be led archery sessions with Blaidd Field Archer){kind=link}
