‘I almost died on motorway from silent killer

Sharath Jetty was on his way to work when he suffered a serious medical situation sparked by a silent killer that he didn’t realise he was at a heightened risk of because of his heritage

It started off as just another ordinary Tuesday for Sharath Jetty.

Last summer, the dad-of-one set off for work as usual and had just hit the M4 motorway when he was suddenly unable to control the steering with his left hand.

Thinking he might be experiencing some sort of paralysis or even a stroke, he sped to the nearest hospital and made it to A&E just before the pain started to get worse.

There, he was floored to learn that he was actually having a heart attack. What Sharath, now 60, didn’t know was that his South Asian heritage increased his risk by up to 50 percent.
