Chairwoman steps down at Hargreaves Lansdown

Deanna Oppenheimer is preparing to leave Hargreaves Lansdown after her stewardship of the FTSE 100 investment platform was attacked by its billionaire co-founder.

The company said that it had begun the process of finding a successor for Oppenheimer, 65, who has chaired its board since February 2018.

The Times revealed in October that a rift had opened with Peter Hargreaves, 76, the company’s biggest shareholder, who said its performance under her had been “diabolical” and a “disaster”.

Hargreaves Lansdown, based in Bristol, is Britain’s biggest DIY investment platform with 1.8 million customers. It administered £132 billion of assets as of the end of March.

It is in the midst of bringing in a new chief executive. Chris Hill, who has run the group since 2017
