Or leave a hilarious private joke as a comment on a very public post. Instead of deactivating your Instagram and entering witness protection, you can simply unsend a message if they haven't yet read it – or delete a chat thread so it's at least 'out of sight, out of mind.' Here's how… How to delete a message on Instagram? Have you got a DM message history you'd prefer to never see again? Whatever the reason, it's very likely you want to delete your chat history with someone. And it's quite simple to do this. Click on the Messenger icon in the top right of your screen to open your message history (it's the triangle shaped one that shows a red bubble when someone slides into your DMs). Click the conversation that you'd like to delete. Swipe the chat history to the left and click Delete that way. Go to your messages first! (Picture: Metro.co.uk) Then, slide the message history you want to delete to the left and hit the big red button (Picture: Metro.co.uk) Once you've deleted a conversation, it will no longer be visible in your inbox. Bear in mind that this only deletes the conversation for you, and that it will still appear for other people included in the conversation. How to unsend an unread message While you can't permanently delete previously seen chats from someone else's account, you can unsend a message if it hasn't yet been read by the recipient. All you have to do is, in your message history, click on your sent message. If the other person has seen it, it'll have a little bit of text saying 'Seen' under the grey bubble.
