Air con at home? Why we might need it in Britain

If the British believe themselves a superior nation to America it is largely due to the things we lack: namely shooter drills or air conditioning in our homes. Air con is the perfect dupe loop (I think, as I lie sweaty and sleepless): to burn coal to cool off to heat up the planet, and repeat! Except now, if you listen very carefully, you start to hear a strange sound. It’s not just the sinister hiss of air con firing up in homes across southern England, it’s the soft melting of national pride.
