Police initially believed Aron died of a heart attack but a medical examiner later discovered a bullet in his body, which has left investigators baffled. A bear hunter then came forward to claim his 19-year-old son, Ethan Asbach, had shot an animal just moments before he discovered Aron and his deceased dog. A second vet found a bullet wound in the dog which matched the bear hunter's theory. However, a vet who re-examined the animal, disagreed and suggested it had been tampered with after he died. Ethan, according to prosecutors, will not be charged - despite Aron's family being left without answers. The family are now suing Lewis County for $20million amid claims officials "sabotaged" the investigation after Aron's body was found on a trail nearly four miles away from Walupt Lake at around 4pm on August 20,2022. The hiker had been camping with a group of friends when he decided to go on a 13-mile solo hike with his dog after setting off at around 9.30am. Ethan, who had admitted to firing a gun while walking with his girlfriend, had confessed to hearing growling which led him to shoot the animal. When they approached the animal, they noticed it was a dog which was next to a dead man, who also had a bullet hole in his chest, according to Ethan.
