Popular holiday resort ‘BANS tourists’ at busiest time of year

British holidaymakers are being warned of a surprising new rule that will “ban tourists” from a popular location this summer with the plan to combat overcrowding

British holidaymakers have been warned of a surprising move to “ban tourists” at a popular holiday resort due to overcrowding.

Thousands of travellers make the their way to Italy each year to enjoy the stunning scenery of Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast but the winding roads of this iconic destination means the surge in tourists leads to traffic and access problems.

And a law has been put in place to control traffic during the high season and prevent overcrowding. The new rules, explained by travel experts at Capri.com, will ban certain tourists depending on their car licence plate when travelling in the area.

The advice said: “During summer 2023, the road space rationing system of alternating license plates will be active on State Route 145 (SS 145) between Vico Equense and Sorrento.
