 James Cameron has confronted rumours that he is to make a drama series based on the doomed Titan submarine. The filmmaker has responded to the false claims linking him to the project after the fatal implosion of the submersible killed all five people on board during a voyage to the Titanic shipwreck. Hollywood filmmaker, Cameron – who directed 1997 Oscar-winning film Titanic starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio – quashed reports about his involvement in the development of an OceanGate film on Saturday (July 15). The 68-year-old began: 'I don't respond to offensive rumours in the media usually, but I need to now.' He added on Twitter: 'I'm NOT in talks about an OceanGate film, nor will I ever be.' His denial comes after sources claimed a streaming network had approached the director to tell the story of the doomed Titan expedition. 'It is a subject close to his heart.' The insider continued to The Sun: 'He told the story of the Titanic so compassionately it feels like a natural step for him to take this on. 'Retracing the steps of those on board the Titan is a massive undertaking but there would be a lot of time, money and resources dedicated to it.' The publication also noted that Hollywood stars Matt Damon and Kumail Nanjiani were on the wish list for the drama. Cameron has visited the wreckage of the famous ocean liner 33 times himself.
