Meanwhile, Sam spotted an advert for Charlie on his phone over breakfast one morning - before showing wife Lorraine Charlie's picture. Both agreed they "had to have him". Sam and Lorraine drove to the centre for their first meeting with Charlie, which was entirely joyous and loving. The coupe described how Charlie bounded towards them happily, anticipating his new life in his long-awaited forever home. Sam told The Guardian: "He jumped on his lap as if they'd been best friends for ever." The meeting marked the start of a happy new life for Charlie and an exciting new adventure for Sam and Lorraine with their latest addition. Sam described how much Charlie loves being around his new owners, adding: "Charlie is a dog who knows exactly what he wants – and that's to be with us all the time. "That first night he jumped on our bed and slept between us. That's become his habit. He's so warm-hearted. He has none of the trauma you might expect after spending so long in a rescue centre." The coupe described how they feel "proud" at offering a needy animal a second chance - adding, "he's done the same for us". Sam said having Charlie in their life sees them get up and out for walks every day and urged others to consider adopting when looking for a dog to join their home.
