The previous owner, who had been idenitified locally, sparked outrage after doorbell footage filmed in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, was published on social media with people calling for the RSPCA and Staffordshire Police to launch investigations. He said a vet had checked the puppy, called Bo, after the incident and she was in good health apart from a slight swelling just above a bloodshot left eye. Recalling his first encounter with the previous owner, he said "there was no reason" to suspect he would mistreat the dog - as he claimed he had other bulldogs and wanted an XL Bully. The 24-year-old said the man handed over £1,000 in cash and took Bo away, but less than a week after, the horrific video emerged. At that point, Mr Salmon decided to contact the buyer - who he described as "a coward" - and told him that he wanted Bo back. He explained that initially, he refused to hand the dog back but accepted when he was offered his money back. Mr Salmon told MailOnline: "He initially said that he didn't want to part with her as she was his pet and he loved her, but I snapped back that he couldn't love her all that much if he was willing to beat her senseless. "It was only after I offered him his money back, did he agree to meet me again and hand Bo back to me. But he wouldn't talk about what he did. He's a coward, he just wanted the cash back.
