Arsenal make ‘promise’ to West Ham as deadline set for Declan Rice transfer

West Ham and Arsenal have agreed terms over a British record transfer for Declan Rice, but it has taken time for the final few elements of the deal to be finalised

Arsenal have promised West Ham the final paperwork for the transfer of Declan Rice will be sorted by Friday.

The England midfielder is poised to join the Gunners in a deal worth up to £105m including add-ons. That would represent a British record, topping the £100m Manchester City paid Aston Villa for Jack Grealish in 2021.

Rice was spotted training in Portugal as he waits for the deal to be made official. He has been unable to link up with his new club in time to feature in their pre-season friendly against Nurnberg, while West Ham didn’t involve the club captain in their own midweek friendly against Boreham Wood.

According to Sky Sports, West Ham have been promised the relevant paperwork will be “delivered and signed” on Friday. The same report suggests Rice may well be confirmed as an Arsenal player by the time the club jets off for a pre-season tour of the United States, while The Telegraph notes that Rice’s holiday in Portugal has got in the way of final details being ‘signed and sealed’.
