But Atalanta's £86m asking price – which is roughly twice of what United had been willing to pay – is proving a significant stumbling block to the Red Devils' plans. It's clear that United must sign a striker after stumbling through last season with an injury-prone Anthony Martial and having to sign Wout Weghorst on loan. With doubts over Kylian Mbappe's future and Lionel Messi departed, the French club are keen on signing a new striker. Hojlund's preference would be to join United but PSG do not face the same financial constraints and could afford a fee closer to Atalanta's asking price. United, by contrast, have already spent £55m of their £120m budget and that's set to move past the £100m mark when Andre Onana joins from Inter Milan.
