 Tom Brittney has announced that the latest series of Grantchester will be his last as ITV unveils his replacement. The 32-year-old has played the reverend Will Davenport since 2019, having originally taken over from Happy Valley's James Norton, who was reverend Sidney Chambers, as the vicar character. The juggernaut crime drama followed clergyman Davenport as he finds himself investigating mysterious wrongdoings with the help of detective inspector Geordie Keating, played by former Casualty star Robson Green. But the Humans actor has decided to call time after the ninth season of Grantchester, due out late this year, to focus on other projects. Tom explained: 'I've had the most incredible time playing Will Davenport for the last five years. 'I got to solve crimes with my best friend, and work with the best cast and crew I could ever ask for. Tom is leaving to focus on other projects (Picture: ITV) Rishi will be replacing Tom in the role of the vicar (Picture: WireImage) Referring to James Bond favourite James's stint on the show, he continued: 'I'll miss it more than anything but it's time for the baton to be passed, as it once was to me.' Tom will be replaced by Hollyoaks actor Rishi Nair, who will star as vicar Alphy Kotteram, and said he was 'so excited' for his successor to be joining the 'Grantchester family.' Rishi, 32, said: 'I'm absolutely thrilled to be joining Grantchester. The welcome and support I've received from everyone has been overwhelming.
