While other video game franchises are made to suffer for their failures, being put on ice or turned into something completely different, it doesn't seem to matter how many times Need For Speed flops, EA keeps churning out new ones. Although last year's Unbound was a better game than most of the other recent ones, it was still the fourth flop in a row. And yet already there are rumours of a new game next year, with a claim that it's a remake of 2005's Most Wanted. Most Wanted remains the most successful entry in the franchise's history and it's already been remade once, in 2012. However, actress Simone Bailly, who appeared in the game's amusingly cheesy live action cut scenes, claims that a new remake will be released in 2024. She announced this on both Twitter and Instagram, but then promptly deleted both posts, which is usually a good sign that what was said is true but wasn't supposed to be made public yet. However, whether she actually means remaster is unclear, as even publishers manage to confuse the two terms. A simple refresh of the 2005 game, with the original FMV cut scenes intact, would be a much simpler endeavour than remaking the whole thing, but remake is the word she used. Given the string of failures the franchise has suffered it's very hard to guess at what EA's future plans might be, but reminding people of when the series was more popular is certainly one obvious route. Whether or not Bailly is right about there being a new release it may be a long time until we know for sure, as Unbound was only revealed in detail a couple of months before its launch.
