 BBC boss Tim Davie has addressed the 'challenging few days' leading up to the announcement that Huw Edwards was the presenter who was suspended. On Wednesday July 12, Edwards's wife Vicky Flind released a statement on his behalf revealing that he was at the centre of several allegations, the first of which was published in The Sun. Flind said that her husband was 'suffering from serious mental health issues', and 'is now receiving in-patient hospital care where he'll stay for the foreseeable future'. Among the claims, he has been accused of paying a young person, who is now 20, more than £35,000 from when they were the age of 17 for sexually explicit images. While a lawyer representing the young person has called the claims 'rubbish', the parents of the individual said that they stood by their allegations. One individual alleged that they received 'threatening messages' after they connected with the newsreader on a dating app, with another claiming that Edwards broke lockdown rules to see them. 'Many of you will have read the words of Vicky Flind, Huw's wife. It is a reminder that the last few days have seen personal lives played out in public. At the heart of this are people and their families,' he said. 'This will no doubt be a difficult time for many after a challenging few days. I want to reassure you that our immediate concern is our duty of care to all involved.
