Last week, allegations emerged that a BBC presenter paid a teenager tens of thousands of pounds for sexually explicit images. It was reported the young person was paid around £35,000 over three years, from the age of 17, for explicit images. In a tweet, one person pointed out the unusual position that the BBC is in when covering the claims originally reported in The Sun. Sharing a picture of a news reporter on TV outside of the broadcaster's office, they wrote: 'BBC host asks BBC reporter standing outside the BBC about allegations against unnamed BBC star. 'BBC reporter says they 'haven't been able to confirm' whether the BBC presenter has been suspended by the BBC.' A viral tweet further establishes how baffled people are at the unique circumstances and the BBC's lack of access to answers. 'With stories like this one, BBC News journalists treat the BBC in the same way as any other organisation the news service reports on,' they explained.
