Liverpool transfer target could make return six years after Steven Gerrard coached him

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is aiming to bolster the Reds’ defence this summer and it appears that one of his main transfer targets could be in favour of making a move to Merseyside

Jurgen Klopp’s transfer demand for Torino star Perr Schuurs could be realised with the Dutchman in favour of moving to Liverpool.

The Reds have long been linked with a swoop for the former Ajax star with a seeming long-standing interest. They were eyeing a move for him way back in 2017 when he was just 17 years of age.

Schuurs was a Fortuna Sittard player back then and was even invited over the Merseyside to train with the club’s under-18 side then coached by Steven Gerrard. He eventually moved to Ajax. It was claimed that Liverpool retained their interest in Schuurs during his time with the Dutch giants.

The Reds were reportedly left impressed with him during his two outings as they took on Ajax in the 2020/21 Champions League group stages. Speaking at the time, he said: “Interest from Liverpool in me? I am not busy with that. I want to win trophies with Ajax first and stay here for a couple of seasons.”
