Liverpool beating Arsenal , Barcelona and Chelsea to the signing of Romeo Lavia this summer could spell the end of Curtis Jones’ Anfield career. The 22-year-old midfielder has staked a claim for a starting berth next season with eye-catching exploits in recent months, but Jurgen Klopp could shut him out. According to Sky Germany , Liverpool have held concrete talks with Lavia, though they haven’t yet agreed personal terms over a contract at Anfield. The report claims Klopp is keen to secure the 19-year-old’s signature, and Southampton are demanding £50million to part ways. Liverpool have already splashed over £120m to bring Brighton and Hove Albion’s Alexis Mac Allister and RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai to Merseyside. And a third high-profile midfield arrival would spell bad news to the current members of Klopp’s ranks. None more so than Jones, who looks to have a promising future under the German coach after an impressive end to last season and U21 European Championship campaign this summer. He also added goals to his game during the run-in as he became a crucial part of Liverpool’s ultimately-unsuccessful push for a top-four finish. But Klopp would likely use the entirety of his summer transfer budget on three midfielders if he sanctions a £50m deal for Lavia. And unloading that much cash suggests he views all three as regular starters to re-mould the high-energy midfield that made his Liverpool sides of old so dangerous.
