Erik ten Hag is set to appoint a new captain at Manchester United with defender Harry Maguire to be stripped of the armband irrespective of whether he stays at the club
Casemiro has seemingly thrown in his hat in the ring to be the new captain of Manchester United.
Centre back Harry Maguire had the armband last season, but was restricted to just 16 Premier League appearances after falling out of favour under Erik ten Hag. The 30-year-old still has two years to run on his current deal, but has been linked with a move away this summer with West Ham amongst the interested parties.
But regardless of his his future pans out, Ten Hag has seemingly already taken the decision to strip him of the captaincy. And according to reports a replacement has already been identified, with Bruno Fernandes tipped to take the role full time after stepping in when Maguire was off the field last season.
Casemiro however, has also cemented himself as an on-field leader following a commanding first season in red. After a £60 million move to Real Madrid, the Brazilian was pivotal last season as United ended a six year wait for silverware by winning the League Cup, and sealed a third-placed finish to secure a return to the Champions League.
