Rachel Reeves says response is ‘not good enough’ after presenter is alleged to have paid thousands of pounds for explicit photos and videos
The BBC presenter accused of paying a vulnerable teenager thousands of pounds for explicit pictures and videos should not have been kept on air after a complaint was made, Labour said as the broadcaster was urged to “get a grip”.
Rachel Reeves, the shadow chancellor, criticised the broadcaster’s response as “not good enough” after the unidentified presenter was alleged to have sent more than £35,000 to a then teenager, beginning three years ago when they were 17.
They are said to have used the money to fund a crack cocaine addiction, with the recipient’s mother having blamed the star for “destroying my child’s life”.
Ms Reeves told Sky’s Sophy Ridge that the allegations “call into question the ethics, the investigations [and] how long these things take”.
