Taylor Swift re-writes ‘sexist’ lyric on Speak Now album re-release

Taylor Swift’s voice breaks during emotional Chicago performance With the rerelease of Taylor Swift’s Speak Now album, many noticed the singer changed the lyrics of her song, Better Than Revenge (Taylor’s Version). Following the initial release in 2010, the songstress was accused of using ‘slut-shaming’ and ‘sexists’ lyrics to describe an actress. In the original song, Taylor detailed her desire to get revenge on a lover’s new girlfriend and sang: ‘She’s an actress, whoa. She’s better known for the things that she does on the mattress, whoa.’ However, in the updated song, the lyric goes: ‘She’s an actress, whoa/ He was a moth to the flame, she was holding the matches.’ At the time, the actress was rumored to be Camilla Belle, who Taylor’s ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas dated after their breakup. More info The songwriter had been embroiled in a bitter feud with the music exec after it was announced her original label Big Machine Label Group (BMLG) had been bought by Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings for $ 300 million. In 2019, Taylor told Tumblr she was ‘sad and grossed out’ by the deal as it meant he now owned the masters to her first six albums, which she was trying to buy back. After some public back and forth, Scooter then sold the master rights to Taylor’s first six albums in a deal worth $300 million, according to Variety.
