Tsitsipas’ girlfriend Badosa gets snappy as Wimbledon couple skip mixed doubles

The Spanish tennis star was forced to retire injured from her singles match against Marta Kostyuk on Friday because of an ongoing back injury she has been carrying. Badosa was visibly disappointed as she gave a short and snappy answer about Tsitsipas’ ongoing match against Andy Murray . Badosa was forced to retire while trailing Kostyuk 2-6 0-1. The former world No 2 received a medical time out after dropping the opening set but chose not to continue after losing the first game of the second. The 25-year-old has already been forced to miss both the Australian Open and French Open this year and was playing her first tournament since May after dealing with a back issue for several months. After retiring from the match, she also announced that the injury would stop her from teaming up with Tsitsipas in the mixed doubles. “No, no, I won’t be able [to play mixed],” a downbeat Badosa said after her injury retirement. “The injury is the same as I have been struggling the past weeks. She added: “I tried my best to try to play here, but yesterday when I woke up I already, after my first-round match, felt it again. It’s a little bit worse. So I will need a few days off and talk to my team and see what I do in the next days and the next weeks.” The Spaniard still managed to get a routine win in her opening match against Alison Riske-Amritraj and confirmed that the back only became an issue again on Thursday. “First match I was pretty happy because I felt okay,” she explained. “After the match I spoke with my team, and I was, like, it wasn’t very bad. But yesterday, as I said when I woke up, I was worse. Today was worse.
