Eddie Howe's side were focused on completing the signing of Sandro Tonali from AC Milan, which gave a window of opportunity to Villa and West Ham. But both parties have failed to capitalise on Leicester's desire to raise funds following their relegation to the Championship. Barnes was valued at £60m by Leicester last summer, when Newcastle were keen on signing the winger. But the Foxes are seeking around £40m following their relegation and the Telegraph say a deal between the two clubs will be agreed this week. However, West Ham's prolonged negotiations with Arsenal for Declan Rice have meant Newcastle were able to steal a march on the Hammers. In any case, the opportunity to play Champions League football with the Magpies is appealing to Barnes. Barnes netted 13 goals for the Foxes last season, despite the side's poor form.
