RAF control tower featured in David Niven film to become luxury holiday home

Restoration of the building into a £3.1m four-bed property will preserve the wartime legacy of a Second World War air base in Hampshire

A wartime watchtower on the brink of collapse is set to be turned into a four-bedroom holiday home as part of a £3.1 million project.

RAF Ibsley, in Hampshire, saw crews fly out during Britain’s fight against Hitler and was used in the 1942 film The First of the Few starring Leslie Howard and David Niven.

The Landmark Trust conservation charity is currently raising £3.1m for renovations with work set to begin in early 2024.

Anna Keay, a historian and director of Landmark Trust, said the “beautiful” watchtower has a “remarkable history” in terms of its contribution during the war and the film that was shot there.
