Keir Starmer’s big speech on education has been thrown into chaos just minutes in, after climate protestors hidden on stage unveiled a large banner and began shouting over the Labour Leader. The protestors managed to disrupt the event for minutes, while Keir Starmer was left flummoxed and asking him to leave the stage. They took a hidden banner on stage, reading “No more u-turns. Green New Deal!”. One of the protestors could be heard demanding a ‘green new deal’. Sir Keir said they must have missed his last speech, which set a target of 100 percent clean power by 2030. The young man was heard demanding Keir Starmer reinstate his £28 billion-a-year of green investment pledge. He also accused the Labour leader of making “so many u-turns His fellow protestor, a young woman, demanded to know: “Which side are the Labour Party on?” Sir Keir retorted they are “on the side of economic growth”. The protestors shouted “we need a green new deal now” while Sir Keir asked for them to let him “please get on with this”. The pair shouted on stage for around a minute before security dragged them off. The protest group ‘Green New Deal Rising’ have subsequently admitted being behind the stunt.
