Instagram’s rival to Twitter, Threads, has attracted around 25m users within hours of launching, Mark Zuckerberg has claimed.
The app, owned by Mr Zuckerberg’s Meta, offers a text-based version of the photo-sharing app Instagram designed for “real-time updates and public conversations”.
Those quick to join the new platform included celebrities including Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez as well as Democratic US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
“Let’s do this. Welcome to Threads,” Zuckerberg wrote in his first post on the app, accompanied with a fire emoji.
