Kate and Koji axed after just two series as ITV confirms sitcom won’t return

ITV sitcom Kate & Koji – which starred Brenda Blethyn, Jimmy Akingbola and later Okorie Chukwu – has been cancelled by the broadcaster, with the show having ran for two series from 2020

The sitcom Kate & Koji has been axed by ITV after just two series.

It starred Brenda Blethyn, 76, as cafe owner Kate. Jimmy Akingbola, 44, had played asylum-seeker Koji, a doctor who sets up a surgery in the cafe to help her bring in customers.

The show was the channel’s first studio audience sitcom in seven years when it launched back in 2020. Kate & Koji once drew more than five million viewers.

Jimmy left the show after landing a leading role in the reboot of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. In the second series, Koji was played by Okorie Chukwu.
