Yorkshire ECB racism hearing delayed as ex-stars appeal call to hold it publicly

The ECB’s racism hearing against Yorkshire and seven individuals was set to start later this month, but is now set to be delayed over appeals against it taking place publicly

Disciplinary proceedings against Yorkshire and seven individuals over the Azeem Rafiq racism scandal are set to be delayed due to appeals against the hearing being held in public.

The Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) ruled last week the hearing should be held in public, an unprecedented decision, following requests from Rafiq. The 31-year-old made the request in an attempt to ensure transparency and try and bring closure to those involved.

And while former England captain Michael Vaughan was said to be ‘happy for the proceedings to be held in public’, according to the Telegraph, for whom he writes a column, other individuals have appealed the decision.

The Daily Mail state that the ECB are set to ask the CDC to ‘convene another preliminary hearing’ after appeals from ‘most of the defendants’. The report adds that the hearing, which was set to begin on November 28, is now expected to be adjourned as a result while the Telegraph claim it will be ‘delayed until the new year’.
